A Flock of Seagulls
A Flock of Seagulls is one of the most iconic bands of the 80s new wave era. Formed in Liverpool in 1979, the band blended shimmering synths, atmospheric guitars, and futuristic style. Their sound defined early MTV and helped shape the rise of synth‑pop.
The band’s self‑titled debut album, A Flock of Seagulls (1982), became an international success. It featured the global hit “I Ran (So Far Away)” and fan favorites like “Space Age Love Song” and “Telecommunication.” The album earned multiple certifications, including Gold in the U.S. and New Zealand and Platinum in Canada.
Their second album, Listen (1983), continued their momentum with the hit “Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)” and reached the Top 20 in the UK and U.S. charts. In 1984, they released The Story of a Young Heart, featuring tracks like “Remember David” and “The Story of a Young Heart.” The band followed with Dream Come True in 1986 and later returned with albums such as The Light at the End of the World (1995) and the orchestral reunion project Ascension (2018).
Led by Mike Score, A Flock of Seagulls became known for their soaring melodies, emotional synth lines, and unforgettable visual identity. Their influence continues across modern synth‑pop and indie electronic music.
A Flock of Seagulls is a perfect fit for New Wave Radio. Their sound is atmospheric. Their albums are iconic. Their music captures the futuristic, emotional energy that defined the 80s.
