Idol launched his solo career after fronting the punk band Generation X. His self‑titled debut album, Billy Idol (1982), introduced his signature sound and delivered early hits like “White Wedding” and “Hot in the City.” The album reached the Billboard 200 and earned Platinum certifications in multiple countries.

His breakthrough came with Rebel Yell in 1983. The album became a major commercial success, peaking at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and charting high across Europe and New Zealand. Idol continued his momentum with Whiplash Smile (1986), featuring “To Be a Lover” and “Sweet Sixteen.” In 1990, he released Charmed Life, which included the hit “Cradle of Love.” He followed with Cyberpunk (1993), a bold electronic‑driven concept album that showcased his willingness to experiment.

In the 2000s and beyond, Idol returned with new music and fresh energy. Albums like Devil’s Playground (2005) and Kings & Queens of the Underground (2014) reintroduced him to a new generation of fans. He continued releasing EPs, including The Roadside (2021) and The Cage (2022), proving his voice and attitude remain as strong as ever.

Across nine studio albums, multiple EPs, and dozens of hit singles, Billy Idol has sold over 40 million records worldwide. His partnership with guitarist Steve Stevens remains one of rock’s most iconic collaborations.
