Background

Erasure is one of the most successful and enduring synth‑pop duos of all time. Formed in London in 1985, the group pairs Vince Clarke’s electronic brilliance with Andy Bell’s powerful, emotional vocals. Their sound is bright, melodic, and instantly recognizable.

Erasure released their debut album, Wonderland in 1986. It introduced their upbeat synth‑pop style and featured early singles like “Who Needs Love Like That.” Their breakthrough came with their third album, The Innocents (1988), which reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. The album delivered major hits including “A Little Respect” and “Chains of Love,” both of which became international successes and charted in the U.S..

From 1986 to 2007, Erasure achieved 32 consecutive UK Top 40 singles, a rare accomplishment in pop music. They followed The Innocents with a run of four consecutive No. 1 UK albums, including Wild! (1989) and Chorus (1991). Their catalog continued to grow through the 90s and 2000s with albums like I Say I Say I Say (1994), Cowboy (1997), and Nightbird (2005).

Erasure’s discography now includes 19 studio albums, six live albums, nine compilations, and more than 60 singles released between 1985 and 2022. Their later albums—such as The Violet Flame (2014), World Be Gone (2017), and The Neon (2020)—show their continued evolution while staying true to their synth‑pop roots.

With decades of hits, unforgettable melodies, and a devoted global fanbase, Erasure remains one of the defining acts of electronic pop.

Erasure is a perfect fit for New Wave Radio. Their sound is vibrant. Their albums are iconic. Their music brings pure synth‑pop energy and timeless 80s spirit to every playlist.
